Kids’ Sports Camp Recap

We had a wonderful time last week at our Kids’ Sports Camp (July 13-17).  The camp was led by Uncharted Waters, an equipping ministry that uses sports as an evangelism and discipleship tool around the world.  This is the third year in a row for us to work with Uncharted Waters, and this year we were privileged to co-host the camp along with Union Presbyterian Church in Los Altos.

We had 95 children who attended the camp.  The kids ranged in age from 4-12 and were given the choice of participating in basketball, volleyball, cheerleading, soccer, or “Team 45” (a fun sports-skills program just for 4- and 5-year-olds).  Each day included times of worship, Bible teaching, sports instruction, devotionals led by camp volunteers, and snacks.  In addition, a gospel presentation was given on Thursday during the camp, and 18 children raised their hands to express their interest in making a profession of faith.

I want to thank all of the volunteers who gave their time last week to help make the camp a success.  We had several outstanding high school, middle school, and college students who helped out.  These young people always do such an amazing job of serving, sharing their faith, and jumping in wherever needed.  We also had some wonderful parents and other adults who helped behind-the-scenes with registration, snack, providing transportation, or serving as host homes for the Uncharted Waters coaches.

I also want to say a special thank you to Natalia Magdalin and Alba Kellejian, who served as Assistant Camp Directors for the entire week.  Along with Katie Licari, Natalia and Alba always made sure that the needs of the volunteers and coaches were met, helped with setup and teardown every day, dealt with last-minute changes as they arose, and generally helped ensure that everything ran smoothly during the week.
