John & Sherry Broesamle, Cru
We want you to meet Mindy. She just finished her sophomore year at San Jose State University. During her freshman year, Mindy met up with some Cru students at San Jose State. Before long she decided she wanted to put her faith in Christ. Every year there are so many wonderful stories like Mindy’s, and they’re always so exciting. Someone coming to faith will usually get to share their story with family or with close friends. They may even get to share their testimony with a group of people, or have their story retold in a letter like this. But rarely do students get the chance to proclaim God’s salvation in their lives in the school newspaper. But Mindy did—in the San Jose State “Spartan Daily”!! Click here to read the full article.
Mindy’s story stands out in a context where a nationwide survey found that the number of freshmen attending America’s colleges who have left their faith over the past three decades has skyrocketed. The number of college students with no religious affiliation has tripled in the last 30 years – from 10 percent in 1986 to 31 percent in 2016 – according to data from this CIRP Freshman Survey:
For John and I right now, the need to reach out to college freshmen becomes much more personal. Last week, we celebrated our youngest son, Jason, graduating from high school. He will be heading to San Diego State in the Fall, just like John did 40 years ago this year! Please be praying for us as a family we move into this new season, and please pray for the Lord to guide, protect, and lead Jason as he heads off to college.
We are so very thankful for each of you and for the opportunity to partner with you so that all college students would have the opportunity to hear about Jesus. Happy Summer!!
