Elder Nominees – September 2022

The Elder Nominating Committee is one of the few committees specifically identified in Bridges’ constitution and is tasked with screening and recommending candidates for the Bridges Elder Board. Elders must be Bridges members, possess the qualities laid out in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1, and be approved by the Elder Board and the congregation. Elders serve three-year terms and are limited to two consecutive terms.

This year’s Nominating Team (Al Kruger, Jayne Bell, Allen Bates, Yuki Ichiriu, Sarah Sun, and Andrew Hill) is happy to present to the congregation the following names as candidates for elders:

Danny Oh (for a three-year term)

Danny grew up in Michigan in a Christian home, but truly began to feel the Lord’s presence in his life during medical school. He has been attending Bridges Community Church since moving to the Bay Area in 2015 and is a member and one of the leaders of the Common Need Life Group. Danny has been dedicated to serving and teaching in multiple capacities over the years.

Danny is an internist and interventional gastroenterologist by training, who spent time in group practice and academia before joining the pharmaceutical industry. He is now an Executive Director, leading a group responsible for developing drugs to treat various gastrointestinal diseases, while continuing to see patients and teach as a volunteer staff physician at the Palo Alto VA Medical Center. Danny holds a BSE in chemical engineering from the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor, and obtained his medical training at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, and the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.

He is married to Dorothy and they have two children: Isaac and Aaron.

Austin Ward (for a three-year term)

Austin has been attending Bridges since 2014 and met his wife, Ellen, there in 2015 when she starting attending. They were married in 2017 and in 2021, welcomed their first child, Dean, who keeps them busy most of the time. Austin was born and raised in Atlanta, GA.

Austin became a Christian during his elementary school years in an Atlanta area church. He was an active member of his high school youth group. He attended the Georgia Institute of Technology where he received his degree in Computer Engineering. It was during his time at Georgia Tech as part of a ministry led by Pastor Dan Stockum that Austin really discovered his faith and developed a desire to make it central to his life. In 2014, Austin moved out to California to work at a tech company and started attending Bridges.

Austin has been an active volunteer in the Bridges Student Ministries since early 2015. He is passionate about working with high school students and helping them discover their own personal walk with God. Austin has also been active in the Young Professionals (YoPros) Life Group, helping where needed in planning meetings, hosting meetups, and filling any other gaps that are needed!

Austin enjoys anything outside, doubly so if it allows him to spend time with his family. In the winter you are likely to find him snowboarding in Tahoe on Saturdays. During the summer you’ll find him hiking, biking, and anything else he can find time to do!
