It’s hard to believe but many families in the Bay Area struggling with poverty face the challenge of providing school supplies for their children each school year. Can you imagine the burden of buying backpacks and notebooks when you struggle with paying rent and providing food for your family?
Join BCC this summer and help low-income kids by providing backpacks with school supplies. We are partnering up with City Team, a non–profit organization that serves the poor and homeless, to host a backpack drive on campus. Our goal this summer is to donate 100 backpacks to City Team!
How do I / my Life Group participate?
- Purchase / collect new backpacks and school supplies (see list of items to purchase below).
- Include an encouraging note to the student who will be receiving the backpack (one note per backpack).
- Drop off your backpack to the Worship Center lobby or Church Office and place in the designated bins by Sunday, July 29.
- If you are unable to purchase backpacks and supplies and wish to donate / collect funds for the drive, please collect from your Life Group or turn in your personal donations in one sealed envelope to the Church Office noting that they are for the Backpack Drive and which Life Group / Individual the donation is from. You can also give online using Fellowship One and designate it for the Backpack Drive. All monetary donations need to be dropped off to the Church Office before Sunday, July 29.
Note: If your Life Group has an existing donation account with the church, you can notify Nancy Bilderback and let her know how much to transfer for the Backpack Drive and she will then allocate funds accordingly. If your Life Group does not have an existing donation account with the church, the Life Group Leader can collect all funds and then turn it into the Church Office to either Nancy or Vivian. Please follow the same procedure of collecting funds from everyone in the Life Group and then turning in one sealed envelope noting that it is for the Backpack Drive and then the name of the Life Group.
City Team is looking for volunteers to help with the actual backpack distribution to students and families on Saturday, August 4th. If you and/or your Life Group wish to volunteer your time, please sign up here. The event time is from 8:30 – 11:30 am and will be in San Jose.

What supplies are needed?
If you or your Life Group will be collecting and purchasing your own backpacks, please ensure that each backpack has the following items inside along with an encouraging note to the student. The preference for backpack color is black but they will still take any backpack in any color / design with supplies.
