And the reason why it is so helpful to consider the various Old Testament stories of Israel when they were in exile, taken from their homes and immersed into a new culture that was hostile to God and to their faith, is because it helps us to think about the question: How do I live out my Christian faith today, while residing in a fragmented culture that is frequently indifferent or even hostile to my faith, and that does not sustain and support the deepest needs of my heart?
