Rest for the Restless Heart - 1 John 3:19-24

This is the time of year when most of us could really use a break. Some much-needed extra rest after the busyness of the holidays, and before the new year kicks in and life gets busy again.

We know what to do when our bodies need rest: a nap, a good night of sleep, a healthier diet, maybe getting lost in a good book or binge watching a movie series or television show. All of those could do wonders for our physical needs. But what do we do when our souls are weary?

Jesus had a thing or two to say about that. Like the time He said, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Jesus offers rest for your heart and soul—something we all need. Today we will see what God’s Word has to teach us about finding the rest that God offers for our souls.

This Week's Sermon: "Need to Know"

Some people seem to know everything. Or at least a lot more than the average person knows. It’s baffling! Does the name Ken Jennings ring a bell? Does just asking that question cause you to think, “Should I have known that?” Just so you’re not left wondering who Ken Jennings is, he recently won the three-day GOAT (Greatest of All Time) Tournament on Jeopardy. The stuff Ken knows is beyond most of us. And maybe for good reason.

Not everything that comes our way is something we need to know. Some things are simply “could knows” or “don’t need to knows.” And there are even some things we know that we wish we didn’t know! But some things that come our way are things we really need to know. They’re that important! They might even have life-changing ramifications. This Sunday our final message in the book of 1 John focuses on five certainties that everyone needs to know. For sure.
