Have you ever had a wake-up call? I’m not talking the kind when a hotel receptionist gives your room a ring. I’m talking when your life needed a course correction or dramatic shift in perspective. The kind when you thought everything was going along just fine, only when something came along and upended everything as you knew it. Maybe it was losing a job, a sudden change in a relationship, or a pointed word of correction.

Next week we’re starting a 2-part series called “Jesus Said WHAT?!” - looking at passages in the Bible when Jesus said things that were either off-the-wall, counter-intuitive, or downright controversial to our ears. And we kick it off looking at the parable of the Shrewd Manager when Jesus commends a guy caught up in some shady business practices. What was Jesus getting at? But maybe even more important to ask, why would Jesus tell such a quizzical and provocative story? It seems he had something so important on his mind that he had to shock his followers in order to get their attention. Jesus wants to give us a wake-up call.
