I Can’t, But God Can - Mark 9:14-29

God can break through without your prayers, but then again, a breakthrough may not come until you pray, in more than just a superficial way. What if God is waiting for you to come to Him in dependent prayer and ask for His help before He brings a much-needed breakthrough your way?

Today we begin a 40-day all-church focus on prayers that see breakthrough results. Over the next six weeks we will be learning from a number of Bible passages and stories where God broke through. What we learn could help us all experience God-sized breakthroughs in our own lives.

Today our Only by Prayer series begins by looking at the importance of truly relying on God. We will see that God can do what we can’t do, if we will rely on Him in prayer.

This Week's Sermon: "Great Expectations"

It’s been said that “if you expect nothing, you’ll never be disappointed.” As much as we’d like to think differently, the same applies to prayer.

In our times of prayer with God, great expectations precede great results. Even beyond what you could have thought or wished for.

Sure, your day-to-day life may be a lot easier if you lower your expectations, but it will also be a lot less than it could be. And with prayer, you may never see what God could and would do if your expectations were equivalent to the Lord’s. This week, through the life of Elijah, we’ll see what God-sized expectations entailed in his life, and the practical impact similar expectations could have in ours.
