Wake Up to God’s Presence - Exodus 13:21-22

Today we begin a new message series focused on Old Testament miracles. Call them God stories or divine intervention—all of them teach us something about God’s unlimited power, unimaginable creativity, and unparalleled work in the world and in the lives of imperfect people who desperately need His help.

For example, the pillars of cloud by day and fire by night that led the Children of Israel for forty years! You’d think that amazing, long-term miracle would have been more than enough to convince them that their first choice should always be to trust God! To make their relationship with Him their top priority. Well…it did, and it didn’t. Which is why this “that’s incredible” part of God’s story is as relevant today as it was in Moses’ day. We’ll see why today.

This Week's Sermon: "Do You See What I See?"

When you look at your circumstances today, what do you see? You may be overwhelmed by debt, discouraged by demands you can’t seem to fulfill, or facing an impossible situation.

Whatever your circumstances may be, the prophet, Elisha, had a servant who could relate to what you’re feeling. The servant woke up early one morning and, when he went outside, he looked up and saw an enemy army with horses and chariots surrounding him, and he cried out to Elisha in response, “Oh no! What shall we do?” But while the servant was panicking, Elisha remained completely calm, despite facing the exact same imminent threat.

How can two people experience the same set of circumstances, but one person looks at it with dread while the other faces it with confident peace? The story behind the miracle we’ll look at this week gives us the answer.
