Being on the receiving end of an unexpected act of kindness or hospitality can be jarring, particularly when you consider that we live in a world that is all too frequently marked by unkindness and inhospitality.

But living in that world also means that we have unlimited opportunities to practice unexpected kindness and hospitality towards others — the type of kindness and hospitality we see depicted in today’s Scripture reading. And more importantly, the type of kindness and hospitality that God lavishes upon us every moment of every day.
